However, Hwang has now turned to color abstraction where images have no room to play. His painting give the impression of satellite photographs of specific areas of the earth, of the black hole which astronomy says holes the secret of the birth of the universe. The small dots on his canvas remind one of pointillism and s rhythmic movement created by the play of light and colors. A closer look, however, reveals that his dots do not represent combinations of colors, but are traces left by acrylic after it is peeled of the paint is peeled. This is a departure form the collage technique where paper and other conventional objects are used.
