KIAF 2003
김연규
Life is always a mysterious object to Yeonkyu Kim. His tireless curiosity keeps raising questions about the origin of life.
However, Kim’s symbolic approach toward life excludes exaggerated gestures about life, dazzling colors, and direct expression. Like a ripple created by a stone thrown into a small pond, what he wants to visualize is a quiet and symbolized figurative world. As the truth is emerging from its long sleep whilst turning pages of a tarnished old book, his art takes viewers to a meditative space.
The mixture of grinded stone and glue is the opening key to creating his symbolic figuration. And pigment-free colorless medium is applied onto the mixture. After the surface of the canvas dries, acrylic figurative elements and other various objects are attached. Finally, his hand-made objects, the last closing key to Yeonkyu-Kim’s art, consummate his painting.
